On the occasion of the 9th session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, a special screening of Avatar, the world’s biggest blockbuster film of all time, will take place on Saturday April 24th beginning at 6pm. Director James Cameron will be present for opening remarks and a dialogue with the indigenous audience members after the film.
Along with mainstream audiences, the film has been met with much positive response from indigenous people, partly due to its parallel of the real life experiences of some of the indigenous communities around the world.
The film screening is co-sponsored by the Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme, Conservation International, and Tribal Link Foundation.
